Ombudsman

An independent official to whom grievances can be aired. Many professionals agree to be, or are required to be members of ombudsman schemes. These set out processes and requirements in the event of a complaint being brought against them via the scheme.

Professional Indemnity Insurance policies set out the way a policyholder must respond in the instance and it is important that policyholders are aware of these requirements before the situation arises.

Ombudsman Scheme Extensions

Policies can be extended to provide cover for awards made as a result of an Ombudsman decision, the extension will generally outline the actions that should be taken in the event of such an action being made and the limits involved.
